background: SLC25A23 is a calcium dependent mitochondrial solute carrier. Mitochondrial solute carriers shuttle metabolites, nucleotides, and cofactors through the mitochondrial inner membrane. May act as a ATP-Mg/Pi exchanger that mediates the transport of Mg-ATP in exchange for phosphate, catalyzing the net uptake or efflux of adenine nucleotides into or from the mitochondria. Function: Calcium-dependent mitochondrial solute carrier. Mitochondrial solute carriers shuttle metabolites, nucleotides, and cofactors through the mitochondrial inner membrane. May act as a ATP-Mg/Pi exchanger that mediates the transport of Mg-ATP in exchange for phosphate, catalyzing the net uptake or efflux of adenine nucleotides into or from the mitochondria. Subcellular Location: Mitochondrial inner membrane; Multi pass membrane protein. Tissue Specificity: Present in various cell lines (at protein level). Expressed at low levels in most tissues examined, with highest expression in brain, skeletal muscle and pancreas. Similarity: Belongs to the mitochondrial carrier (TC 2.A.29) family. Contains 3 EF-hand domains. Contains 3 Solcar repeats.
